Terms of service.

These terms cover your use of WhisperBubble, the Android dictation app. You buy it once through Google Play. There’s no account, and WhisperBubble runs no servers of its own.

Last updated November 1, 2026

WhisperBubble is made and sold by Dave Otero, an individual developer (“we,” “us”). By installing or using the app, you agree to these terms. Our privacy policy explains how the app handles your data.

One-time purchase No account Your consumer rights still apply

Your license

When you buy WhisperBubble, we give you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to install and use it on Android devices you own or control, for your own personal or work use, as Google Play allows for your account.

The app is licensed to you, not sold. We keep all rights in the app, its code, design, and name, other than the ones these terms give you.

Please don’t

  • copy, resell, rent, or redistribute the app, or remove its copyright or license notices,
  • get around its license or purchase checks,
  • reverse engineer or decompile it, except where the law allows you to, or
  • use it to break the law or infringe anyone else’s rights.

WhisperBubble records your voice when you start a dictation. If other people can be heard, getting any permission the law requires from them is up to you.

You can stop using WhisperBubble at any time by uninstalling it. Your license ends if you seriously break these terms.

Purchases and refunds

WhisperBubble is a one-time purchase on Google Play, with no subscription. Google processes the payment, shows the price in your currency, and handles any taxes. Google Play’s terms and policies apply to the purchase.

Refunds go through Google Play under its refund policies. Shortly after buying, you can usually request one in Google Play yourself. After that, or if Google can’t help, email us, and we can refund an order through Google Play where it’s fair to.

Your purchase includes the updates we release. Over time we may add, change, or remove features, including the on-device models and cloud providers the app supports, for example when a provider retires a model or changes its service.

Nothing in these terms limits a refund, repair, or other remedy that consumer law gives you.

Cloud providers and your API keys

Cloud transcription and cleanup are optional. To use them, you add your own API key from a provider you choose, such as Google, OpenAI, Groq, or AssemblyAI. The app then sends your audio or text straight to that provider, never through us.

Your account with each provider is between you and them. Their terms, usage policies, and privacy policies apply, and they bill you directly for what you use. You’re responsible for those charges and for keeping your keys safe. The prices, free credits, and limits mentioned on this site are a guide, and each provider can change them at any time.

Providers can also change or retire their services and models. When that happens, a cloud feature may stop working until we update the app, and we can’t promise that any particular provider stays available.

If you connect WhisperBubble to your own server or another custom endpoint, running and securing it is up to you.

On-device models

WhisperBubble can download speech and cleanup models to run on your phone. They are made by other companies and researchers and come with their own licenses, which apply to the models themselves. These terms don’t change those licenses.

In the app, More > About & Privacy > Open Source Notices lists each model and software library WhisperBubble uses, with its license.

Downloading a model uses your data connection and storage. How fast a model runs, and which languages it handles, depends on the model and your phone.

No warranty beyond the law

We work hard to make WhisperBubble reliable, but speech recognition and AI cleanup can get words wrong, and the app depends on Android, your phone, and providers we don’t control. Check anything important before you send it.

Apart from what these terms say and what the law requires, we provide the app “as is,” without other warranties, including implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement, to the extent the law allows.

If you’re a consumer, you keep the rights your local law gives you, such as the legal guarantee in the EU and the UK that digital content matches its description and works as it should. These terms don’t exclude or limit those rights.

Limits of liability

To the extent the law allows, we aren’t liable for indirect or consequential losses, such as lost profits, lost data, or charges from a cloud provider, that arise from using the app. Our total liability for any claim relating to the app is limited to the amount you paid for it.

These limits don’t apply where the law doesn’t allow them. We don’t limit liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, for harm we cause on purpose or through gross negligence, or for anything else that can’t be limited by law.

If you live in the EU, the UK, or anywhere else with consumer protection laws, you keep every right those laws give you, and nothing in these terms waives them.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms, for example when the app, the law, or Google Play’s rules change. We’ll post the new version on this page with a new date. Changes apply from that date and don’t take away a right you already have, such as a refund you’re due. If you don’t agree with a change, you can stop using the app.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Colorado, United States, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules. If you’re a consumer living outside the United States, you also keep the protection of the mandatory laws of your country, and you can bring a claim in the courts where you live.

If something goes wrong, please email us first. Most problems are quickest to sort out that way.

If a court finds part of these terms unenforceable, the rest still applies. If we don’t enforce a term straight away, we can still enforce it later.
